Isabeau of Bavaria

(1371-1435)
queen of France Born in Munich, Germany, Isabeau of Bavaria was the daughter of stephen II of Wittelsbach, duke of Bavaria, and Tedea Visconti. She married charles vi of France, after whose dementia she assumed the regency, favoring Louis d'Orléans over jean the fearless, thus provoking the quarrel between the Armagnacs and the Burgundians. Leaving the alliance she made with the Armagnacs, Queen isabeau allied herself with the Burgundians and with the English and was an accessory to the Treaty of Troyes (1420) that gave Henry v of England a claim to France. Her influence ended with the death of Charles vi. isabeau of Bavaria was the mother of King charles vii.
